Blue State, Red State, Keep it in Your Pants, Mate!

Can it possibly be true that Republicans have more lust than Democrats, or that Democrats are just better at not getting caught? Yes, we know about Bill Clinton, Gary Hart and John Edwards, but come on . . . it seems that more Republicans than Democrats are cheating on their wives these days.

Governor Sanford is the second elected Republican official this month to admit an affair. In the last couple of years, we have had the "wide stance" Senator and the "Congressional Intern" Congressman, both Republicans. Maybe this is just a statistical cluster and there really is no difference, in this respect, between powerful Democrats and Republicans . . . but let's assume for a moment that there is a difference.

What explains this? Anyone have any theories?

  1. I think it's one of the truly bi-partisan aspects of these powerful people (men). It's just particularly drenched in hypocrisy when it comes from people in the party that claims to own the "family value" issue and to understand what "real" Americans want.

  2. AHA!!! There actually IS something we can agree on! I knew we would find something eventually if I kept blogging. I think this is all about absolute power and the corruption that so often results. This is one type of corruption. There is also financial malfeasance, which is rampant, but often not caught because of its many shapes and sizes.

And, then there is the more subtle types of corruption (not the type people pursue for personal gain) that often occurs when one party holds too much power and feels that it has some kind of "mandate" from "the people" (as if we are ONE) and (this is the corruption part) it stops listening. Bush did this and now, sadly, I see elements of it in our current Administration, as you well know.

Anyway, staying focused on the issue we can agree on . . . perhaps the solution is a GPS chip under the scalp for all elected officials where any citizen can use real-time Google Earth to find them, and spy on them. How cool would that be?

  4. Dear Rota-Filler Boy:

It is true that American politics are far less interesting than British politics. Your country has a long and rich tradition of politicians engaged in all sorts of tawdry affairs. We are really neophites at this and can only dream of reaching the levels of Karma that exist across the pond. But, alas, politicians of both persuasions are making a game of it over here so, we'll see. Woldy

  5. "British" "Your country" where did this come from?? Republicans do it in 5 Star Hotels and Dems visit the local Motel 6. I guess that we get caught less often?
